There are many hair products on the market and an insane amount of hype surrounding these products. The product we are reviewing today is the W2 Apple Conditioner. The main motivation of this review will determine if this conditioner fits into a hair loss management plan.
From the product description:
This natural conditioner contains the apple-derived Pyrus Malus Fibre which gives hair a smoother and shinier look. It makes it easier to control split ends, restores PH balance of hair and removes any build up on your hair shaft. Apples also contain Procyanidin B-2, a compound that promotes hair growth giving you strong and smooth hair. The main selling point of this sample is that it contains apple extract. Apple extract contains polyphenols, which can act as antioxidants to scavenge free radicals. The most well studied component of apples that contributes to hair protection and growth is procyanidin B-2.

Procyanidin B-2
- In 2001, a clinical trial tested whether applying 1% procyanidin B-2 tonic directly to the head could aid hair growth. This was a randomly assigned, double-blind, placebo-controlled study involving 29 male subjects. 78.9% of the treated subject had an increase in hair diameter.
- Another larger placebo-controlled clinical trial involving 43 subjects showed that procyanidin B2 can aid hair growth. Subjects in the study directly applied purified procyanidin B2 directly applied to scalps. After 6 and 12 months of treatment, the treatment group had significantly increased hair density.
- There is a molecular basis for the biological action of procyanidin B2. It increases the levels of certain growth factors that are associated with hair growth.
